What is AYF Football?
American Youth Football (www.americanyouthfootball.com)
is a travel competive football program. Our AYF teams play approximately half
of their games on our home field and half of their games against other American
Youth Football programs primarily in St. Johns and Clay County. Teams compete
against one another, records are kept and the top teams have the opportunity to
advance in Regional and National tournament play. All teams must abide by
Mandatory Play Requirements (see below) ensuring each player a minimum number of
plays in each game. Please see our JDL Football
page for a comparison chart between our AYF and JDL football programs.

The
1st Grade division is an excellent opportunity for the very youngest
aspiring football players to get their feet wet in tackle football. This program
is limited to kindergarten and 1st graders. Parents of a 5 year old do not
have to worry about their child getting his first taste of tackle football against
a 2nd grader that has been playing for two seasons already. This division
is also 8 on 8 football (as opposed to 11 on 11). This allows us to keep the
team sizes smaller so that more attention can be paid to each individual child.
It is also much easier for a coach to handle the smaller sized team of very young
players.
Mandatory Play Requirements
American Youth football rules require a mandatory number of plays for each participant
during a football game. The guidelines for the number of plays required are based
on the number of players present for the game and are as follows:
|
16-25 players
|
8 plays
|
|
26-30 players
|
6 plays
|
|
31-36 players
|
4 plays
